Catherine is a registered Clinical Psychologist practising in Carlton, Australia. She offers psychological therapy to individual adults aged 18 years and older. Catherine works with a wide range of presenting issues and tailors her approach to each client based on their individual needs and preferences.
Catherine has a strong interest in mindfulness and has meditated since her early twenties. In 2014 she completed Meditation Teacher Training at The Melbourne Meditation Centre. She also practises qigong (a mindful movement practice with its origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine) and trained as an Integrative Qigong Teacher with Nicole Lee at ChiSpace in 2017. She also believes strongly in the healing power of nature and has previously taken small groups of women on ‘Mindful Hiking Days’.
In addition to private practice, Catherine previously worked at Smiling Mind, a not-for-profit organisation in the preventative mental health space well known for its much loved free mindfulness meditation app. Catherine worked as one of Smiling Mind’s in-house psychologists focusing on the development and facilitation of workshops about mindfulness and trauma informed practice in schools. She was also involved in the development of meditations in other languages including the First Nations languages of Pitjantjatjara, Ngaanyatjarra and Kriol, as well as Dari and Arabic.
Approach to Therapy
From her own personal experience, as well as through her work with clients, Catherine understands that healing isn’t linear and it isn’t always easy; that it involves being an active participant in the process and that small, consistent steps are key.
The importance of establishing trusting, compassionate and curious relationships with her clients is the bedrock of Catherine’s practice. Rather than viewing her clients’ challenges as ‘problems to be fixed’, Catherine is passionate about providing her clients a safe space within which to heal unresolved emotional wounds and discover new and exciting ways of relating and being in the world.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” – Carl Rogers
